What is Reorganization?
Reorganization (or reorg in short form) means changing an organization’s structure, which may or may not result in reporting structure changes. By changing the reporting structure, we mean changing the managers of some people in the organization. EM1s are not usually expected to have been involved in many reorganizations. Generally, EM1s don’t drive big reorgs, but they are involved in the process by providing their input in the process. It is expected that an EM2 or someone of a more senior level will be directly involved in a reorganization effort.
The most important thing to understand while answering reorg-related questions is the motivation behind this restructuring. You should be able to explain the rationale behind it and articulate the motivation. This motivation can be delivering some business goals, changing goals, changing priorities, creating better alignment, or optimizing the team’s structure.
