Turning Information into Knowledge

To turn information into knowledge, we’ll add context to the extracted information. Context enables the audience to understand the message. Since different contexts produce different knowledge, we must pay attention to the type of context we add to a graph.

To turn information into knowledge, add one or more annotations to the visualization, such as texts or other graphs, that explain the main visualization.

Consider the following chart, comparing the number of tourist arrivals in some European countries in 1994 and 2019. The chart focuses on Portugal. Notice that from 1994 to 2019, all the countries experienced an incredible increase in tourist arrivals.
