Content SEO Part 1: Types of SEO Content

Understand what content SEO is and discover its common types present on webpages.

Content SEO is a big part of our on-page SEO, and an indispensable element of our overall SEO strategy. Content strategy is all about how to structure the page to make it stand out to visitors, implement keyword research, write valuable content optimized for search intent, and much more. In short, content SEO covers all the areas aimed at creating a piece of content that ranks.

What is content SEO?

Content SEO is a technique for creating content optimized for the purpose of ranking high in search engines. We’ll often hear the term “SEO content” in the marketing world, which is essentially the noun-version of the same word. SEO content is a piece of content created to rank high in search engines.

Google takes quality content as one of the foremost ranking factors for websites. Constantly evolving search algorithms of Google aim to prioritize sources that “demonstrate expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness on a given topic,” according to Google itself [14].

Types of SEO content

SEO content exists in different types. Each type is written and structured differently, based on the intent of its audience.

SEO content can fall into any of the following categories:

Landing page

Landing pages are designed specifically for PPC campaigns. These are dedicated pages where our potential customers will land after clicking on a paid ad or email. Other than paid campaigns, landing pages can also be created for SEO purposes to attract organic traffic.

For example, look at the following organic search result:

It opens a landing page that looks like this:

In short, it’s crisp, catchy, keyword-optimized, and created for a seamless user experience.

Homepage

The homepage is the first page that users will see when they land on our website. It’s also the page users will tend to come back to if they’re in search of some specific information on our website. Most SEOs aim to create a compelling, clear homepage optimized for branded keywords and a few most important industry-related keywords.

Product page

The product page is a page on our website that showcases a particular product or service. Besides applying the general content SEO techniques discussed later in the same lesson, we want to make these pages inviting and click-worthy. Other than that, adding structured data to our product page is an important aspect of modern-day SEO. It provides detailed product information to Google so it can generate a rich snippet of the page in search results.

Blog post

Posting blogs helps our business’s SEO by positioning our site’s content in response to some specific queries of the users. Optimizing the blogs with on-page SEO tactics further increases the possibility of our site’s visibility to users. Blogs are typically optimized for a single primary keyword and are a combination of text and images on the page. We can also include videos to engage the readers. Blogs can exist in several formats, such as how-tos, listicles, and articles.
